what a fascinating question. The ability to walk is very complex and requires the brain to become interconnected with the legs. So when we are born the brain and the legs although connected are not passing the messages back and forth correctly. It is a bit like having a mobile phone and ringing someone with a message, but not having good signal, the message is there but doe snot get through. As the baby starts to get older they start to get stronger muscles in the legs and in their core but also increases the functioning of the nervous system which connects the brain to the legs. SO the messages now start to become clearer (like getting a better signal on your phone, the same message as before but now e can hear it). This process occurs at different rates for babies depending upon their muscle strength and how often they try to walk.
