0 Question: how does the Mass Spectrometer work? Keywords: mass spectrometer Asked by Fdown Miya to Martin on 12 Mar 2018.
Martin Lindley answered on 12 Mar 2018:
you take a sample …in this case breath …
and you put it into the Mass Spec ….by breathing into the tube connected to the Mass Spec
the mas spec then breaks down the sample (breath)_ into its smallest possible bits …
these bits are then pushed through a very small but very very long tube
each tiny bit will stick to the tube at a difference place depending on what it is (separation)
we can then look at the tube and see what the breath is made up of.
