      This is a very advanced question, you obviously have a great knowledge of the body already which is wonderful to see!
      Vitamin D is really important because it acts as a little messenger that helps to transfer calcium and phosphate (in the form of phosphorus) in the gut tube into the blood where it can then go and help bones to keep their strength. If you don’t have enough Vitamin D then the calcium and phosphate can’t be absorbed into the blood and bones can become softer and weaker – meaning they can break more easily.
      You can get Vitamin D from sunlight or you can take it in supplement form as tablets.
