      yes I did

in fact my school teachers told me that I wasn’t suited to studying and that I would be better off if I got a job and not doing A levels or going to university.

I had to work very hard by myself to get into university and even harder to prove that I could be a scientist.

but I didn’t give up and I knew I could do it if I wanted it enough.

So despite what other people thought and said I went ahead and became a scientist 🙂

Not so much in becoming a scientist, no, but there are lots of challenges actually being a scientist. Sometimes experiments don’t work and you don’t know why or sometimes you have to think of new ways to do things and this can be challenging. Also, we when have an idea for an experiment we often have to apply to a company or funding agency to get the money to do it. This is a lot of working sometimes you don’t get the money so this can also be challenging! It makes it all the better and more satisfying when you do though!!

Yes – I wasn’t able to find a job in research, so I have decided to move away slightly into my current job. Now I help others do their research and make sure that we do the very best science that we possibly can.

I suppose yes. I am registered blind which meant that i was told from a young age that i would never really be able to achieve much in life. This certainly posed problems and challenges but i learnt how to work around them. There are some things that i can not do, but it has not stopped me.
