Not usually no (most of my friends are scientists too that I met while studying or working!) but recently I’ve been working together with a teacher to create better links with a local primary school in both anatomy teaching and tissue engineering research.
I do this because I work on things that can affect everyone in life – most people will know someone who has had an injury or disease in some part of their body and it is useful to know what has gone wrong and why. Also, as tissue engineering tries to grow new body parts, it is likely that this will become a real medical treatment in the not-to-distant future!

Nope, as everyone who is interested or working in science is often already doing something similar. The rest who are not scientists are working in other areas – though many of them studied science at university, they may be doing something else now.
