Your body moves by using the musculoskeletal system – this means the bones that make up your skeleton and the muscles that are attached to your bones. Muscles are are the fleshy parts that contract ( get shorter) to move a bone. The muscles do this by attaching to the bone via a tendon – this is a piece of connective tissue that is a bit like a string! So the muscle shortens, it pulls on the string( tendon) and moves the bone it is attached to.

You can feel this on your own arm if you like? Straighten your arm and put your hand on your arm between your shoulder and your elbow. Now bend your elbow and you should feel the muscle underneath bulge? This is the muscle contracting. That muscle is attached to the bone beneath your elbow and so the tendon of the muscle is being pulled and that’s why the bone moves. It’s pretty cool 😎
Try is on other joints and see what muscles you can feel moving!
