      There are lots and lots of different types of chemicals that do this. The way that most of them work is by blocking the nerves in your body from realising that you are hurt, or stopping your brain from receiving the information that you are hurt. This means that you don’t actually get any better, just that you can’t feel it anymore.

      The chemicals you can buy in the shops are usually tablets, so take time to act, as they have to get through your body. Some stronger ones given to you in hospital will be by injection, so get straight into the blood so they act quicker.
